I know a lot of people are saying "All lives matter" and they may be saying it with the best of intentions, but they're missing the point. The best analogy I've heard regarding this is, imagine your house is on fire and the fire brigade start spraying water on all the other houses in your neighbourhood. All those houses matter to someone, but the only one on fire at the moment is yours and that's the one that needs the immediate attention. Once the fire is out at your house, then all houses can matter equally

You only have to read H's lyrics to know where he stands on matters of compassion, I am glad Marillion are showing solidarity.

I remain amazed that a band so committed, from the start, to justice and giving voice to the voiceless has attracted so many people who seem to have missed all of their messages.

All Lives Matter! You’re removed!

Thank you, Marillion. America is hurting and I'm embarrassed. We've never seemed so weak, so vulnerable as we do right now.

Almost EVERY artist that has posted this has been trolled by exactly the same arguments and comments. It's as if an entire organised group has been trying to find these to spread their vitriol and create division and hatred by diverting the discussion away from its intent. Please let's not give them the platform and respond to their bigotry, please ignore them.

Jesus, even an 80s prog band which has nothing to do with politics is virtue signalling.

The last album basically made me give up buying albums from the band.

Oh noooooo not marillion....this is getting out of control

Some of the replies here really show me that some people can clearly listen to a band for years and somehow miss the point of most of what they write about. If you've read any substantial amount of Marillion lyrics, this really can't be a surprising position to take.

For the "all lives matter" folks... "Premise: There is an invisible ‘only’ in front of the words ‘Black Lives Matter.’ Critique: There is a difference between focus and exclusion. If something matters, this does not imply that nothing else does. If I say ‘Law Students Matter’ it does not imply that my colleagues, friends, and family do not. Here is something that matters: context. The Black Lives Matter movement arose in a context of evidence that they don’t. When people are receiving messages from a culture in which they live that their lives are less important than other lives, it is a cruel distortion of reality to scold them for not being inclusive enough[…] As a general matter, seeing the world and the people in it in mutually exclusive, either/or terms impedes your own thought processes. If you wish to bear that intellectual consequence of a constricting ideology, that’s your decision. But this does not entitle you to project your either/or ideology onto people who do not share it." - Patricia Leary, professor at Whittier Law School.

I beginning to suspect some people got into this band purely for the album artwork rather than the message the songs contain.

Absolutely no problem with artists like Marillion and Peter Gabriel doing this as they have always had strong political messages. I’m afraid to say that some other artists are purely involved in this in a bandwagon ‘don’t forget to look at me’ way. I’m sorry but it’s true.

Thank you, for using your reach for this message. It’s not about Mr. Floyd, nor about supporting any violence as a form of protest. It is about a serious general problem: racism... and acknowledging that it exists. All lives matter is a nice utopia and often used to derail the discussion on racism ... chainsawsuit.com/comic/2016/07/07/all-houses-matter-the-extended-cut/

♥️ take care you all and take a minute to reflect on the situation happening in US. Making sure this will never become part of our daily lives and that we are “dumbed down” in our emotions to just look and “move on”...

❤️ Great post. And excellent shortcut for blocking all the "ALLiVEeSMatTEr" ignorance.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but if this opinion somehow offends you then I really have a hard time understanding why you are even in this group or consider yourself a fan in the first place.

And that’s exactly what you shouldn’t be doing. The Show Must Go On forever. Your music is your weapon.

The band must despair at some of you.

"Or you could love..." "Only love will turn you arond.." Just a reminder.

Having a clear out today then? Wonder how many are hanging about for the please don’t leave comments

All those all lives matter types are forgetting the second part of the "all animals are equal" line, clearly. And if you don't think Marillion fronted by H or Fish are a political band, can I politelyask what band you think you've been listening to all these years? Or are you so lacking in sensitivity that the lyrics of White Russian or Gaza have gone right over you heads?

Thank you, Marillion.

Sure was nice having you as my favorite band. Jesus Christ says all lives matter to him! I respect His opinion more than yours. We are all welcome to our own opinions and beliefs, but it is very unwise to associate your opinions with your business. The way to keep the most fans would be to just play your music. Sad to say goodbye.

So then, are we doing finger lights at the next convention or is it Nazi salutes? I know we like to surprise the band but if the band read some of these comments they’ll be gob smacked! All one tonight my arse!

29th May 2020 - A Lockdown Audience With Marillion

Hi Everyone,

We hope you are all continuing to stay safe and well.

Things are easing up a little here in the UK (as long as we are all good and responsible boys and girls) and the sun has been shining which always makes things better.

We have been able to spend some time making a little bit of noise at the Racket Club with Mike Hunter coordinating control room exclusion zones.

It has been great to spend time in each other's company again, and good to have a sense of purpose after a few weeks feeling adrift.

But we are effectively still locked down and looking after our health, even if the sanity is still a little questionable.

So for band meetings our cat-herding manager Lucy is calling us regularly on Zoom and she thought it would be fun to let you see part of the virtual get together we had on Tuesday.

We’ll spare you the boring bits and skip straight to the light-hearted part when Lucy asked us a series of questions on your behalf.

Think of it as a Marillion Weekend 'Audience with Marillion' without the audience.

And with none of us in the same room.

And no bar.

You get the idea.

We’re putting this exclusive 26 minute clip onto The Space, our official Video On Demand channel, as we’d love for you all to have a chance to look around the growing collection of concert film, documentary and other content that’s available there to buy, rent or enjoy as part of a great value subscription.

It will be free to view for the next seven days and will then be archived on the channel for our growing band of supporters forever!

You won’t need to sign up to watch this content whilst it’s available to view for free, but if you do decide to subscribe then you will enjoy a free 7 day trial period and we will thank you from the bottom of our locked-down hearts for supporting this exciting project.

So, if you want to hear a little bit about how the new album is progressing and, amongst other revelations, discover which band member each of the others would prefer to be quarantined with, then go here - bit.ly/marillionlockdownzoom

And next Friday we’ll be releasing some more fun for all The Space subscribers as a massive thank you for your support.

Watch this (err…) SPACE and our other social media channels…

Stay safe inmates,

Help! Been trying to watch the vid via both Safari and Edge on my iPad, all is fine for 26 seconds and it then completely freezes immediately after Ian’s video feed disappears. I’ve tried everything including subscribing but nothing seems to work......

great to see everyone in such fine fettle, good spirits, full of positivity and looking healthy (Special mention to Steve R, doing great there fella👍) put a smile on my face from start to finish and the banter gave me plenty of laughs. The guys doing stuff like this is one of my lockdown positives😀

Dear Steve R, with issues similar to yours but a fair bit bigger, you are an absolute inspiration and thanks for sharing. Good work. If you have any secrets to your success (although probably just hard work, i'm sure) let me know :-) and stay safe. You're a legend.

Great fun! Next time, you could ask them whether they watched their 1989 selves on Top Of The Pops last week!

That was the best 25 mins in all of lockdown. Laughed and laughed. Still thinking of some of the responses and laughing - especially Ian - "I always wondered what you were singing". Oh, and I'm one of the women!

Watched this today, great little video all, loved it! 😃

Thank you for making me laugh! It was wonderful seeing you all 😍

Loved it 😍 such funny questions 👍so great to see and hear you guys 🥰 thank you so much boys and lucy. Love from Holland x

Steve Rothery you are looking so well! Making the rest of the band look a bit crap, TBH - but competition is always good! Great to see you all, and thank you for writing the soundtrack to my life since 1980-weird xx

Really enjoyed this last night- felt like I was in the room with you all- thank you xx

No one said Brave as your favourite album. It is certainly my favourite.

So much fun! Thanks to all! Great to see everyone!

Could have brought Fish in as a special guest... maybe next time

Why don't you pls make an acoustic New version of Hope for the future? 😷😁

Steve R, I lost it when you were the villain petting the cat!

so glad you are all enjoying it.

Loved this, thank you for sharing - x. Ian managed to promote his book as well! 😆

Have Lucy and Ian dialled in from different rooms in the same house?!

Absolutely brilliant and funny and so insightful.. many thanks for this.. Well done Mr R on your weight loss progress.

Good morning!! Thank you!! That was fabulous!!! 😊💖So wonderful to see all of you and I loved hearing about how you are all doing, your new music and making us smile and laugh at the answers to the questions! Stay Well and healthy. 😷☮️❤️🎶🌹

Brilliant! Took me back to the 2019 weekends. Many thanks to all involved - really appreciate it.

Made me smile and just praying Leicester happens. Well done Steve to for weight loss and Mark what's with the beard. Stay safe guys 🙏😊

wikipedia should have 2 entries for Marillion, 1st one that describes the band, and a second one that says, Marillion are a community consisting of the band of a the same name and their fanbase🤝 love these little insights that Pete is doing, really makes me listen to the songs differently, the band that keeps on giving👍👏🙂

Great to hear your muses Pete! It's great to listen too all the band members doing your best the entertain us during lock down. It's also great that we get the interact with you whether you know or just get surprised. Love it and hopefully looking forward to Leicester next year 👍

Ros I walk most weeks with Brian jelliman one of the original marillion band member

Love this videos Pete. What’s with all the drums stacked up to your left?

Love these posts. Thank you. Also Pete an opportune moment to thank you for Eddisons Children.....more wonderful work.

what a hugely impressive and insightful person. cant say more about how brill the band are, but each artist has their own highly valued talent. just keep on going and keep us informed, and let us enjoy your karma.

Go! is my first introduction to Marillion and still one of my favourite songs if not the one. Everything is brilliant and perfectly mixed together in the end, I love it! Thanks for the masterclass, I wish I played bass just to try it

Thanks very much to Pete, it's interesting to take a close look at how the parts work together. Interested to know what amp is being used there - it has a really nice vintage sound.

Enjoy this soooooo much...because one, I'm a huge Marillion fan, and two, I play bass also but his approach is so far from mine and thus instructional and informational.

Love your bass lines, too many to single out it seems but love the ones on Market Square Heroes and That Time of the Night. Really geeky nerdy muse question but did you use a capo on Chelsea Monday?

Your performance is always amazing! I know that the bass guitar is the coolest musical instrument.😉

Love your bass work! Great videos, thanks

I love it when you play the bass Pete I’ve got to say ... fabulous 👌

Love Go and like the Wide Awake Remix even more and to have it broken down and explained like that is great 😁👍 Looking forward to the work you are all working on for next Album😉

Absolutely love these - bass guitar lines are fab. Thank you !

Cheers Pete! really enjoy these short videos! a nice and insightfull look at the way you create your bassparts! thanks!

Thanks Pete.... it’s such a brilliant song 😍

Brilliant. I love this. Thank you, Pete!

Thanks Pete! Always fun and interesting!

Mr. Pete T…vocal fish time…use Hofner bass. bass play style different. fish time…you play very Melodious✨🎶 I feel…😊🎸~✨

Fantastic sequence of notes!! Am loving these videos. More please. Hello from Canada! 🇨🇦

One of my very favorite Marillion songs!

Masterpiece. Vielleicht der beste Bass-Part ever played! Love this, love this Song, love Marillion!❤️

Go! is one of my favourite songs - those chords together are truly beautiful. This is brilliant Pete Trewavas - outstanding work!!

Great information Pete thanks 🙏🏼
